Man o’ man, get ready! Today I, Prep, will be giving you the low-down on some affordable makeup setting sprays.
Pixi Makeup Fixing Mist ($15/2.70 oz)-
I’ve talked about this once before, but holy moly do I enjoy this spray. It such a refreshing thing to spray in the morning, especially before your 8 am’s. This has probably the finest mist of all our products listed, making sure you won’t have awkward blotches of wet on your face. Unlike most setting sprays I’ve ever tried this one smells like roses and fairy dust rather than questionable chemicals and life decisions like most sprays. Although I find this reduces cake face really well, there’s not much of a change in wear (comparatively).
NYX Matte Finish Setting Spray ($8/2.02 oz)-
This “mattifiying” spray doesn’t quite live up to its title. While this does combat cake face, there’s definitely not a difference in the wear time on your makeup. This also can sometimes give you puddles in your makeup as the spray nozzel sometimes give you bigger droplets rather than a mist. Also a warning; gross smell is included. Although this being said, Punk has had great success in using this to foil eye shadows or pigments.
NYX Dewy Finish Setting Spray($8/2.02 oz)–
Ditto. Pretty much the same thing and not a lot of difference in wear time or a dewy completion and still has the smell of a chemical bath. Don’t get me wrong- I will be the first to say that NYX is one of the best drugstore cosmetic companies out there, but both of these products just fall flat. Although this does work excellently as a placebo. ;)
Maybelline Master Fix Wear-Boosting Setting Spray ($13/3.4 oz)-
This spray, you guessed it, also has the weird smell but this last longer than the 2 previous NYX sprays and also combats cake face a lot better. This also has a finer mist that it’s NYX counterparts and helps pigmented products stay pigmented through out the day. Blush, highlight, eye shadows, etc. last a whole lot longer with the help of this spray.
Wet n’ Wild Photo Focus Setting Spray ($5/1.52 oz.)-
Personally, I think this is the best bargain for your buck and the one I use on the daily. Comparatively, this one makes makeup last the longest on my skin and keeps the cake face away the best. This has a pretty fine mist, coming in at around second. With such an awesome price tag and performance, the only gripe I have with this product is that godforsaken chemical smell.
